Keywords: leyomyomas; submucosal tumor; esophagus; benign tumors

Abstract

Objective. To determine the efficacy of diagnostic methods in detection of esophageal leyomyoma.

Маterials and methods. Data about 66 patients, suffering morphologically confirmed esophageal leyomyoma, were estimated retrospectively. There were performed radiological investigations: esophageal roentgenography with contrasting (n=48), thoracic computer tomography (TCT) (n=35), TCT with trustful enhancement (n=10), thoracic magnet-resonance tomography (TМRТ) with a contrast enhancement (n=4), аnd instrumental as well: fibroesophagogastroduodenoscopy (FEGDS) (n=58), еndoscopic ultrasonography (ЕU) (n=6)

Results. Sensitivity of radiological diagnosis is low: roentgenography – 31.25%, TCT – 22.85%; FEGDS – 31%.

Conclusion. Every one method of radiological diagnosis do not have specific signs for esophageal leyomyomas, but, while applied in complex, roentgenography, TCT and FEGDS make the diagnosis improvement possible.
