Abstract

Objective. In experiment on 24 rabbits, using morphological investigations and morphometric analysis, to estimate the efficacy of application of the BMDCT (bone marrow-derived cell transplantation) procedure in the treatment of intraarticular osteochondral injuries and defects.

Маterials and methods. Using morphometric analysis of the preparations, оbtained from 24 еxperimental animals, distributed into three groups, the regenerate structure and character were determined, as well as its integration into surrounding tissues, the content of cellular structures and noncellular elements was estimated, which were formed in the defect in different series of experiment, using modified histological scale S. W. O’Driscoll et al and S. R. Frenkel et al.

Results. The investigation results analysis, using modified scale of histological estimation have shown, that hyaline cartilage was preserved in the animals regenerates only, when the BMDCT procedure was applied. Significant stratification in the regenerate surface of the articular cartilage in this animals was not revealed, the structural integrity was high, the density of articular cartilage around the defect edges have exceeded significantly  the indices in control animals. Degenerative changes in chondrocytes have prevailed in control animals. While investigation of the reconstruction character in subchondral bone under the defect zone, using statistical analysis, a trustworthy difference between investigated and the control animals was revealed (р < 0.001), what have witnessed by the efficacy of the BMDCT procedure application.

Conclusion. The investigation results gives the base for conclusion, concerning the efficacy of application of the BMDCT procedure in treatment of patients, suffering intraarticular osteochondral injuries and defects.
